Shogun 2 Total War

Total War series, a franchise that all of us should know of and a whole different type of strategy game. The Total War series has had brilliant games, such as Rome, Medieval 2, or the early ones - Shogun and Medieval.

Now, instead of going down the path of history, as they did since Rome (Rome - Medieval - Empire - Napoleon) they picked out Shogun, shook it, looked inside and said "Yeah, this still has some more money in it"

So they revamped it. Well not revamp as much as improve. Well not improve either, erm, shall we say, refurbish it? No, no, its not revamped, nor is it improved, nor is it refurbished. Its a way of making MOAR MONAY

The time period is set in aieyou-ki-sheidan-san-keki-derchio-san-kepukku-bejji-horo-spice-und-wulf-keki-san-chan period of Japan, back when the daimyos couldn't afford flagpoles and instead his warriors, donning bamboo kettles, lugged them around instead. The campaign map, which has been shrinking since Empire, was shrunk down to a size where apart from Japan there's absolutely nothing left (note: I may be talking out my arse about this), and while for a game set in aieyou-ki-sheidan-san-keki-derchio-san-kepukku-bejji-horo-spice-und-wulf-keki-san-chan period Japan its fitting, the koreans and manchu's would like to have a chat with you.

Now we turn attention to the battles. Looking back at Rome when each faction had unique units and even the same-ish archers had a twist, and in Medieval where cultural differences really stood out, the variety of units was put inside a bin and defecated on. The variety offered in Shogun 2, especially in multiplayer, makes you want to gnaw on your testicles and cut out your eyes with a spoon. Considering this is set in aieyou-ki-sheidan-san-keki-derchio-san-kepukku-bejji-horo-spice-und-wulf-keki-san-chan period of Japan, when each rat had his own kingdom within a kingdom (Kingception, sue me) the variety of units is none.

Graphics: 7. - Same engine dragged from Empire, "redone" for Napoleon and reused for Shogun.

Presentation 4. - Using art for loading screens and such is cool. Using a single painting for nearly everything is not cool (dat derphorse)

Gameplay 8. - Its total war, no matter how maimed.

Online 3. - Its total war, except anti-king Midas touched it and everything turned to shit.



OVERALL TROUTMASTERS GIVE aieyou-ki-sheidan-san-keki-derchio-san-kepukku-bejji-horo-spice-und-wulf-keki-san-chan period of Japan. A 6/10 AND A DICE

but m2tw and rtw both were in troutmasters top 10 games of decade so w/e

Rome Total War kicked ass and Medieval 2 was great except they made like each nation's unit selection the same. I still never finished a campaign of MTW2 though.
